Japan-Germany Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Meeting

On October 11, commencing at 16:10 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone meeting with H.E. Ms. Annalena Baerbock, Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs, Federal Republic of Germany. The overview is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Minister Baerbock expressed her congratulations to Minister Iwaya on his appointment as Foreign Minister. In response, Minister Iwaya pointed out that Germany is an important partner sharing values and principles and expressed his willingness to closely work with Minister Baerbock to further strengthen Japan-Germany relations and to maintain and enhance a free and open international order based on the rule of law.
  2. The two ministers welcomed the mutual dispatch of assets from both countries this summer, following the entry into force of the Japanese-German ACSA in July and confirmed their commitment to further strengthen cooperation in the fields of foreign policy and security through the “2+2” framework.
  3. Regarding economic security, the two ministers shared the view to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries, utilizing the consultative framework to be established following the Japan-Germany Summit Meeting in July.
  4. The two ministers exchanged views on the situations in East Asia, Ukraine and Middle East and confirmed their commitment to continue close cooperation bilaterally and within the framework of the G7 on various challenges, including regional affairs, that the international community is faced with.
