On October 6, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, Germany jointly held the 50 years Jubilee of the Agreement between Japan and Germany on Cooperation in the field of Science and Technology in Kyoto.

  1. The Agreement between Japan and Germany on Cooperation in field of Science and Technology was signed and entered into force on October 8, 1974, and celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. Inviting participants mainly from the 21st Annual Meeting of the Science and Technology in Society (STS) forum held in Kyoto from 6 to 8 October, more than one hundred from the science and technology circle in Japan and Germany attended the Jubilee event. It served as an opportunity to lay the basis for the cooperation in the next 50 years.

The event was moderated by Ms. KAJI Misako, Ambassador for Science and Technology Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, and was attended by Mr. KIUCHI Minoru, Minister of State for Science and Technology Policy, Dr. ABE Toshiko, Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Dr. Jens BRANDENBURG, Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister of Education and Research and Ms. Petra Bettina SIGMUND, Ambassador-Designate of the Federal Republic of Germany to Japan, who congratulated on the past 50 years of relations and expressed their expectations for further bilateral cooperation in the future. There were also remarks by Prof. KOMIYAMA Hiroshi, Chairman of the STS forum, and keynotes by Prof. Dr. Katja BECKER, President of the German Research Foundation, Prof. ISHIGURO Hiroshi, Osaka Unicesity Distinguished Professor, and Dr. Celia SPODEN, Senior Research Fellow of the German Institute for Japanese Studies.
