Protest regarding the Navigation of a Chinese Naval Survey Vessel in Japan’s Territorial Waters

  1. It has been confirmed that on August 31, a Chinese naval survey vessel navigated in Japan’s territorial waters in the southwest of Kuchinoerabu island, Kagoshima Prefecture.
  2. Following this incident, Mr. NAMAZU Hiroyuki, Director-General of the Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau, issued Japan’s strong concern and protest on this incident to Mr. Shi Yong, Minister of Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, taking into account the past activities of Chinese naval vessels and others in the waters around Japan, and the recent intrusion into Japan’s territorial airspace by a Chinese military plane.
  3. The Chinese side responded by explaining their own assertion.
