Courtesy Call on Foreign Minister Kamikawa by the Delegation Led by U.S. Congressman John Moolenaar, Chairman of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party

On August 27th, commencing at 10:40 a.m. for approximately 15 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call by the delegation led by U.S. Congressman John Moolenaar, Chairman of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party. The overview is as follows:
- At the outset, Minister Kamikawa welcomed the delegation on their visit to Japan. She stated that Japan and the U.S. reaffirmed that they are global partners during Prime Minister Kishida's official visit to the U.S. in April, as well as at the Japan-U.S. "2+2".
- Both sides exchanged views on various challenges that the Indo-Pacific region is facing. Minister Kamikawa emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between Japan and the U.S., as well as the network of like-minded countries centered around Japan and the U.S. She also mentioned that at the 2024 Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) Ministerial Meeting, Japan issued the TICAD Ministerial Meeting Joint Communiqué with its partner African countries, the first such joint communiqué issued at the Ministerial Meeting.
- Lastly, Minister Kamikawa expressed her expectation for continued support from the U.S. Congress for Japan-U.S. relations.
