Parliamentary Vice-Minister Hosaka’s Paritipation in TICAD Ministerial Meeting Thematic Event (Summary)

On August 26, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs HOSAKA Yasushi participated in a TICAD Ministerial Meeting Thematic Event held at the Hotel New Otani Tokyo and delivered opening remarks, which are summarized as follows:
- On August 26, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs HOSAKA Yasushi participated in a TICAD Ministerial Meeting Thematic Event titled “Global Health Financing to Achieve Universal Health Coverage in Africa: Promoting Partnership to Maximize Impacts” organized by Japan Center for International Exchange (JCIE) and Save the Children Japan (SCJ), and delivered opening remarks.
- In his opening remarks, Parliamentary Vice-Minister HOSAKA emphasized the importance of financing in achieving universal health coverage (UHC), and stated that domestic resource mobilization in inividual countries and mobilization of private capital in addition to public finance are necessary. Parliamentary Vice-Minister HOSAKA further stated that it is vital to eliminate duplication and ensure mutual complementarity when it comes to the division of roles and financing flows among various stakeholders involved in global health. In this regard, Parliamentary Vice-Minister HOSAKA stressed the significance of ensuring alignment among various agencies as well as investing in health systems and UHC instead of merely addressing individual diseases, in an endeavor to optimize aid effectiveness. Parliamentary Vice-Minister HOSAKA also referred to the importance of the UHC Knowledge Hub.
