Courtesy Call on Foreign Minister Kamikawa by Governor Abbott of the State of Texas

On July 11th, commencing at 4:15 p.m., for approximately 20 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call from the Honorable Greg Abbott Governor of the State of Texas, the United States of America, and his delegation during their visit to Japan. An overview of the courtecy call is as follows.
- At the outset, Minister Kamikawa welcomed Governor Abbott and his delegation to Japan, and expressed her sympathy for the damage caused by Hurricane Beryl to Texas and her condolences to the victims and their families.
- Minister Kamikawa also noted that business partnerships and interactions between municipal governments underpin the close friendship between Japan and the United States. In response, Governor Abbott stated that the importance of the Japan-U.S. alliance is growing in every aspect, including security and economy, and that he hopes to further deepen the Japan-Texas relationship and the Japan-U.S. relations.
- The two sides also exchanged views on Japan-U.S. relations and the Japan-U.S. alliance as well as regional affairs in the Indo-Pacific region. In such exchanges, Minister Kamikawa mentioned the outcome of Prime Minister Kishida's official visit to the U.S. of this April and pointed out the importance of the close coordination between Japan and the U.S. to uphold and bolster the free and open international order based on the rule of law. Governor Abbott expressed his strong support for her remarks.
