On July 1, for about 15 minutes from 12:10 pm, Foreign Minister KAMIKAWA Yoko received a courtesy call from Professor Klaus Schwab, Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum (WEF) during his visit to Japan. The overview is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Minister Kamikawa welcomed Professor Schwab’s visit to Japan, and paid tribute to his contribution to promoting public-private dialogue in a wide range of fields. She described that Japan is actively working to open up a “New Frontier of Economic Diplomacy” in which Japan builds multilayered connections with all stakeholders and links them to the economy and its diplomatic activities while emphasizing public-private partnerships and relations with the Global South. Minister Kamikawa also stated Japan will continue to lead international discussions on various issues that the global community faces, and that in this regard, she would like to continue to work closely with the WEF.
  2. Professor Schwab emphasized the longstanding cooperative relationship between Japan and the WEF and expressed his expectations for Japan's role in the growing importance of international cooperation and his intention to continue contributing to multilateralism through the Forum's annual meeting in Davos.
