Courtesy call on Parliamentary Vice-Minister Foreign Affairs KOMURA Masahiro by Lieutenant Governor Roden of the State of South Dakota, U.S.

On June 24th, commencing at 10:10 a.m. for approximately 30 minutes , Mr. KOMURA Masahiro, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call by the Honorable Larry Rhoden, Lieutenant Governor of the State of South Dakota, the United States of America. An overview of the meeting is as follows.
- At the outset, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Komura welcomed Lt. Governor Rhoden's visit to Japan, and expressed his wishes to exchange views on ways to develop the relationship between Japan and South Dakota, noting that Japan and the United States are global partners to uphold and bolster together the free and open international order based on the rule of law.
- Lt. Governor Rhoden then expressed his hope to further deepen the Japan-South Dakota relations, and explained the trade relationship between Japan and South Dakota, particularly in the area of agriculture and manufacturing. In response, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Komura stated that the U.S. is an important partner that values sustainable agriculture as much as Japan does, and expressed his hope that the two countries would continue to strengthen cooperation from the perspective of food security.
- The two sides also exchanged views on issues such as Japan-U.S. cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region, sister city cooperation between Japan and South Dakota, further promotion of tourism and efforts for decarbonization.
