Emergency Assistance to the Federative Republic of Brazil in Response to the Damages caused by the Heavy Rain and Flood Disaster
Today, on May 20, upon the request of the Government of the Federative Republic of Brazil, the Government of Japan has decided to provide emergency relief goods (water purifier) through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to the Federative Republic of Brazil in response to the damages caused by the heavy rain and flood disaster.
In light of the humanitarian perspective and the close relations between Japan and Brazil, Japan has decided to provide emergency assistance to the Federative Republic of Brazil to support people affected by the heavy rain and flood disaster.
In the Federative Republic of Brazil, the heavy rain and flood disaster hit the country since the end of April has resulted in a large number of those affected including the loss of lives, and significant physical damages. According to Brazilian Government , as of May 17, 2024 local time, 154 people died, more than 610,000 people were evacuated, and approximately 2.3 million people were affected.
