Courtesy call on Foregin Minister Kamikawa by Mr. Kai Wegner, Governing Mayor of Berlin

On May 16, commencing at 0:40 p.m. for approximately 15 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call from Mr. Kai Wegner, Governing Mayor of Berlin, Federal Republic of Germany, who is visiting Tokyo. The overview of the courtesy call is as follows.

  1. Minister Kamikawa, having congratulated on the 30th Anniversary of the friendship city relationship between Berlin and Tokyo this year, pointed out that Berlin is an important base of activities for Japanese companies and asked for further support for Japanese companies and residents in Berlin. The Governing Mayor then introduced that the State of Berlin would participate in EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai, through exhibition and both sides confirmed their intention to further strengthen the relationship between Japan and Germany including the State of Berlin, taking this opportunity.
  2. Minister Kamikawa also underscored that the Japanese-German Center Berlin is an important center for exchanges between the two countries and expressed her gratitude for the support by the Senate of Berlin for operation of the Center. Both sides confirmed that they will work together to enhance activities of the center, taking opportunity of the 40th anniversary of its establishment next year.
  3. Both sides also exchanged views on issues including the situation in Ukraine and in East Asia as well as economic security.
