Japan-Austria Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Talk

On April 25, commencing at 4:30 p.m. for approximately 25 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone talk with H.E. Mr. Alexander SCHALLENBERG, Federal Minister for European and International Affairs of the Republic of Austria. The overview is as follows.
- At the outset, Minister KAMIKAWA expressed her gratitude for the messages of Austria's solidarity regarding the Noto Peninsula earthquake. Minister Kamikawa welcomed the groundbreaking ceremony of the Austrian Pavilion for the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai held on April 16, and expressed her hope that the Expo would be an opportunity to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries. Minister KAMIKAWA also highlighted the progress being made in efforts to strengthen economic relations between Japan and Austria, giving example of the signing of the Agreement between Japan and the Republic of Austria on Social Security in January of this year. In response, Foreign Minister Schallenberg expressed his wish for further development of the bilateral relations between the two countries, including in the field of economy.
- The two Ministers also exchanged views on regional situations such as Ukraine, the Middle East and East Asia and confirmed that the two countries would continue to work closely together.
