Courtesy Call on Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Fukazawa by Ms. Sanda Ojiambo, Assistant Secretary-General, United Nations Global Compact

On March 21, commencing at 10:45 a.m. for approximately thirty minutes, Mr. FUKAZAWA Yoichi, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call by Ms. Sanda OJIAMBO, Assistant Secretary-General, United Nations Global Compact, who is visiting Japan to attend UN Global Compact Board Meeting and Annual Local Network Forum. The overview of the courtesy call is as follows:

  1. At the beginning, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Fukazawa paid homage to the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), which promoted cooperation between the business community and the United Nations, noting the importance of collaborations among wide-ranging stakeholders in achieving the SDGs. He also stated that Japan would work with the UNGC to achieve the SDGs throughout the international community by 2030.
  2. In response, Assistant Secretary-General Ojiambo stated that the UNGC would like to continue to strengthen its partnership with Japan in a wide range of fields, including Business and Human Rights, development in Africa and TICAD. From these perspectives, she stated that the UNGC would like to collaborate with Japan, citing its possible assistance in matching Japanese and African companies as an example.
