Japan-Germany Vice Ministers’ Meeting

On March 15, commencing at 12:30 p.m. for approximately two and a half hour, Mr. OKANO Masataka, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting including a working lunch with Dr. Thomas BAGGER, State Secretary of the Federal Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany, in Tokyo. The overview is as follows.
- The two sides welcomed the closeness of the Japanese-German relations including the holding of the first Inter-governmental Consultations last March and the progress made in cooperation in the field of security in recent years and confirmed that they will continue to work together to maintain and strengthen a free and open international order based on the rule of law.
- In addition to bilateral relations, the two sides exchanged views on a wide range of issues including regional affairs in Indo-Pacific, Ukraine and Russia, as well as the Middle East, cooperation on global issues including nuclear disarmament. They confirmed that Japan and Germany would further strengthen their partnership through bilateral, G7 and international cooperation to address these issues.
