The 4th Japan-Baltic Cooperation Dialogue
On March 4, Mr. FUKAZAWA Yoichi, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan attended the 4th Japan-Baltic Cooperation Dialogue in Tokyo as chair, with the attendance of Mr. Egidijus Meilunas, Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania, Mr. Andris Pelšs, State Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia, and Ms. Kyllike Sillaste-Elling, Undersecretary for Political Affairs, Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Estonia.
As a result of this dialogue, Japan issued the Chair's Summary.
The participants held intensive discussions under three themes: "Japan-Baltic Cooperation", "Regional Issues", and "People-to-People Exchange".
The participants shared the view that future cooperation between Japan and the Baltic countries would be promoted based on three pillars: (1) politics and security, (2) economy, and (3) people-to-people exchange. The participants reaffirmed that the Japan-Baltic Cooperation Dialogue is an effective forum for discussions to further promote cooperation between Japan and the Baltic countries, and shared the view that the Japan-Baltic Cooperation Dialogue will basically be held once a year at the vice-ministerial level even after the Fifth dialogue and onwards, and that the Fifth dialogue will be held in Lithuania.

The “Japan-Baltic Cooperation Dialogue” was established by the leaders of Japan and the Baltic countries in order to further promote Japan-Baltic cooperation in a wide range of areas when former Prime Minister ABE Shinzo visited the countries in January 2018 for the first time as Prime Minister of Japan.
