Announcement by the Government of Israel regarding settlements (Statement by Press Secretary KOBAYASHI Maki)

- The Government of Israel announced its decision to approve plans for the construction of around 3,500 housing units in settlements in the West Bank. The Government of Japan remains seriously concerned by and once again expresses deep regret over the continued settlement activities by the Government of Israel despite repeated calls by Japan and the international community.
- Settlement activities are in violation of international law and undermine the viability of a two-state solution. The Government of Japan strongly urges the Government of Israel to reverse the decision and fully freeze its settlement activities. The Government of Japan once again calls for the need to refrain from actions that escalate tensions especially before Ramadan, taking into account the critical humanitarian situations in the Gaza Strip and the occurring violence and collision in the West Bank.
