Courtesy call on Foreign Minister Kamikawa by General Cavoli, NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR)

On February 26th, commencing at 3:25 p.m. for approximately 15 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call from General Christopher G. Cavoli, NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), during his visit to Japan. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Minister Kamikawa welcomed the first visit of the NATO SACEUR to Japan. She also stated that, as the international community is facing changes defining an era, the security of the Euro-Atlantic and Indo-Pacific is inseparable, and expressed hope that Japan would further promote concrete cooperation between Japan and NATO, based on the Individually Tailored Partnership Programme (ITPP), formulated last year.
  2. In response, General Cavoli highly appreciated Japan's support for Ukraine and stated that the importance of cooperation with like-minded countries including Japan, has been increasing as the security environment is becoming increasingly challenging.
  3. Both sides welcomed the progress of concrete cooperation between Japan and NATO in areas such as cyber, space, and maritime security, and concurred to further strengthen Japan-NATO cooperation.
  4. In addition, both sides also exchanged their views on regional affairs in East Asia, Ukraine and others.
