Meeting between Foreign Minister Kamikawa and H.E. Dr. Bisher Hani Al-Khasawneh, Prime Minister of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan

On February 16th, commencing at 2:30 p.m. for approximately 25minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, payed a courtesy call on His Excellency Dr. Bisher Hani Al-Khasawneh, Prime Minister of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The overview is as follows:
- At the outset, Foreign Minister Kamikawa welcomed the visit to Japan by Prime Minister Khasawneh and expressed her appreciation for the message of sympathy following the damage caused by the Noto Peninsula Earthquake. In response, Prime Minister Khasawneh once again expressed his sympathy following the Noto Peninsula Earthquake and his will to further strengthen the bilateral relations seizing the opportunity of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationship.
- They discussed the following items and concurred on deepening bilateral relations going forward.
- Situation in the Middle East
Minister Kamikawa expressed her serious concern about the critical humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip including many children, women, and elderly casualties and the further destabilization of the situation due to the spillover of the situation into the region. She also stated that Japan has been making active diplomatic efforts, including in the Security Council and G7, to improve the humanitarian situation and calm the situation as soon as possible, and Japan would like to maintain close communication with Jordan. Furthermore, Minister Kamikawa stated that she hoped that a humanitarian ceasefire would be swiftly achieved, which would secure an environment in which humanitarian assistance activities can be carried out and would also lead to the release of the hostages, and that a sustainable ceasefire would be achieved, and with this in mind, she called on the parties to act immediately from a humanitarian perspective. Prime Minister Khasawneh explained Jordan’s efforts regarding the situation in the Gaza Strip and highly appreciated Japan’s efforts, and stated that Jordan would like to continue working with Japan closely. - Bilateral cooperations
Prime Minister Khasawneh explained Jordan’s efforts to modernize its economy and finances, and expressed appreciation for Japan’s consistent support for Jordan. Minister Kamikawa stated that Japan will continue to support Jordan’s efforts and take advantage of the great momentum created by the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations to further deepen cooperation in a wide range of areas, including politics, economics, and security.
They confirmed that the two countries will continue to work together closely.
