Dispatch of Election Observer Mission to Pakistan for General Election

  1. The Government of Japan has decided to dispatch an election observer mission to Pakistan from February 7 to 10, 2024 to support the fair implementation of the elections of the National Assembly and Provincial Assemblies scheduled to be held on January 8, 2024. The mission will be headed by Mr. WADA Mitsuhiro, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Pakistan, and will consist of officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and the Embassy of Japan in Pakistan as well as outside experts.
  2. In addition to observing the polling and counting process, the mission will exchange views and information with election observer missions from other countries and NGO etc.
  3. The dispatch of the election observer mission is part of Japan's cooperation for the consolidation of democracy in Pakistan in response to the Election Commission of Pakistan’s announcement that it would welcome international election observers.
