On February 5, commencing at 16:50 p.m., for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. TSUJI Kiyoto, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, met with Mr. Andreas Norlén, Speaker of the Parliament, Kingdom of Sweden. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

  1. At the outset, State Minister Tsuji welcomed Mr.Norlén’s visit to Japan and he also expressed his gratitude for receiving words of sympathy regarding the Noto Peninsula Earthquake. Furthermore, State Minister Tsuji stated that Foreign Minister Kamikawa visited Sweden last month and had a bilateral meeting with Foreign Minister Billström, and that he hoped to further develop the bilateral relationship. In response, Mr. Norlén stated that he welcomed the communications between the two countries at various levels, appreciated that the "Japan’s Nordic Diplomacy Initiative" as an expression of Japan to cooperate with the five Nordic countries, and expressed his desire to continue to work closely with Japan.
  2. They also exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East, Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, and the situation in East Asia, including close coordination in dealing with North Korea.
