Japan-ROK Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Talks

On January 23, commencing at 5:35 p.m. for approximately 35 minutes, (Japan time), Ms. Kamikawa Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, spoke over the phone with H.E. Cho Tae-yul, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea. The summary of the telephone talks is as follows.

  1. Minister Kamikawa congratulated Minister Cho on his appointment, and stated that she looks forward to working with him on further building on the positive momentum of Japan-ROK relations, from a broad perspective. The two ministers exchanged their views on recent Japan-ROK bilateral relations and cooperation in the international arena, and concurred on continuing close communication with one another.
  2. Both Ministers shared serious concern about the continued provocations by North Korea, and concurred to continue close coordination between Japan and the ROK, as well as among Japan, ROK, and the United States. Minister Kamikawa expressed her appreciation for the continued support from the ROK government on the abduction issues.
  3. Minister Kamikawa expressed her deep appreciation for the warm messages of sympathy including the letter sent from Presiden Yoon Suk Yeol, as well as the assistance provided by the ROK, following the Noto Peninsula Earthquake.
