Courtesy call on President Erdoğan of the Republic of Türkiye by Foreign Minister KAMIKAWA

On January 16, commencing at 7: 20 p.m. (1: 20 a.m. on January 17 Japan time) for approximately 40 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who is visiting the Republic of Türkiye, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Recep Tayyip ERDOĞAN, President of the Republic of Türkiye. The overview is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Minister Kamikawa congratulated President Erdoğan on the centenary of the Republic of Türkiye last year and on his re-election in the presidential election. She also expressed her gratitude for the Turkish Government's condolences and offer of assistance following the damage caused by the 2024 Noto Peninsula earthquake.
  2. The two sides concurred on continuing to work together towards the early conclusion of negotiations on the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) and the Social Security Agreement, as well as the opening of the Turkish-Japanese University of Science and Technology (TJU), taking advantage of this year's centenary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Türkiye.
  3. Minister Kamikawa also pointed out the importance of Türkiye’s role in various important issues in the international community, such as the situation in the Middle East, including the Gaza Strip, and Russia's aggression against Ukraine, and the two sides concurred on continuing to work closely together in addressing these issues.
