Japan-Sweden Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Talk

On December 21, commencing at 4:30 p.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone talk with H.E. Mr. Tobias BILLSTRÖM, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Kingdom of Sweden. The overview is as follows.
- Minister Kamikawa expressed her intention to pursue further cooperation between Japan and Sweden as well as between Japan and the EU in the efforts to address common challenges of the international community and to realize a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific.” In response, Foreign Minister Billströmexpressed his congratulations on the appointment of Minister Kamikawa and stated that he would like to further strengthen cooperation with Japan in variousareas. The ministers concurred to deepen cooperation both bilaterally and in the form of Japanese-Nordic cooperation.
- The two foreign ministers shared the view that under the severe international security environment, it is even more important for like-minded countries to strengthen cooperation in the field of security. The Ministers also discussed regional situations, including the Middle East, Ukraine and East Asia, andconfirmed their continued cooperation.
