On October 17th, commencing at 3:00 p.m., for approximately 20 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call from the Honorable Phil Murphy, Governor of the State of New Jersey. An overview of the meeting is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Minister Kamikawa welcomed Governor Murphy’s visit to Japan, and expressed her gratitude for Governor Murphy’s efforts to strengthen economic ties and promote mutual understanding between Japan and New Jersey. Moreover, she spoke of promoting Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) and remarked that women’s empowerment is increasingly important. Governor Murphy shared his ties with Japan and stated that there are existing positive economic ties between Japan and New Jersey, including direct investment in the state, and that he would like to further deepen such relations going forward.
  2. In such exchanges, the two sides also exchanged views on regional affairs in the Indo-Pacific region. Minister Kamikawa stressed the importance of upholding and reinforcing the free and open international order based on the rule of law, and conveyed her view that Japan and the United States would work together to respond to challenges to the economic order, to which Governor Murphy responded favorably.
