On July 20 (July 19 local time), during his visit to New York, U.S., State Minister of Foreign Affairs TAKEI Shunsuke held a meeting with Ms. Catherine Russell, Executive Director, United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). The overview is as follows.
- At the outset, State Minister TAKEI expressed his high appreciation for UNICEF’s close collaboration with Japan as an important partner, providing international assistance and promoting the SDGs.
- In response, Ms. Russell expressed her gratitude for Japan's cooperation with UNICEF, which is extremely important in the current situation where children around the world are facing difficulties due to the COVID-19, conflicts, and climate change, and also expressed her appreciation for Japan’s cooperation, which is based on human security, and her desire to further deepen cooperation with Japan in the future.
- State Minister TAKEI introduced the outcomes of the G7 Hiroshima Summit in the field of global health, and Ms. Russell expressed her appreciation for Japan’s leadership in this area. Both sides concurred on continuing close cooperation in these areas.
