Statement by State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan TAKEI Shunsuke on the occasion of the UN High-Level Political Forum 2023 Ministerial Segment

On the morning of July 20 (local time on the afternoon of July 19), State Minister for Foreign Affairs TAKEI Shunsuke attended the UN High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) 2023 Ministerial Segment and delivered a statement on behalf of the Japanese government.
- While progress toward achieving the SDGs has been delayed due to the COVID-19 and Russia's aggression against Ukraine, State Minister TAKEI reiterated the necessity to accelerate efforts toward achieving the SDGs by the international community as a whole, and pointed out that it is important to “walk the walk” in the spirit of solidarity.
- In addition, referring to Japan's emphasis on "investment in people," State Minister TAKEI introduced Japan's concrete actions in the areas of education, global health, disaster risk reduction and climate change, and stated that Japan, as the chair of the G7 Hiroshima Summit, will continue to play a leading role so that the entire international can achieve the SDGs.
