July 13, 2023
- On July 13, the European Union (EU) announced that it would lift import restriction measures on Japanese food products, which were introduced after the accident at TEPCO's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant in 2011 and had been under review.
- The Government of Japan had requested the EU and its Member States to lift the measures based on scientific evidence, on various occasions.
- The Government of Japan welcomes the EU's announcement of the lifting of the measures, as it will encourage the reconstruction of the affected areas by the Great East Japan Earthquake.
