Meeting between State Minister for Foreign Affairs YAMADA Kenji and H.E.Mr. Romuald WADAGNI, Minister of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Benin

On June 29, commencing at 5:00 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, H.E. Mr. YAMADA Kenji, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Romuald WADAGNI, Minister of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Benin, who was visiting Japan. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
- At the outset, State Minister Yamada expressed his appreciation to Minister Wadagni for participating in the State Funeral for the Late Prime Minister ABE Shinzo last September. He also stated that Japan is “a partner growing together with Africa” as affirmed at the Eighth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 8), and he would like to further develop the bilateral relations with Minister Wadagni. In response, Minister Wadagni expressed his gratitude for the support of Japan to date and his expectation to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.
- The two sides confirmed that they would work for further development of bilateral relations, including cooperation in infrastructure development, industrial promotion, and improvement of the living environment of the population, as well as to work toward peace and stability in the Sahel region and the neighboring coastal countries of the Gulf of Guinea.
- The two sides also exchanged views on regional and international issues, such as strengthening the functions of the UN, including Security Council reform, and dealing with North Korea, including the nuclear and missile issues as well as the abductions issue. They concurred on continuing to work closely together to address these issues.
