Meeting between Foreign Minister Hayashi and National Security Advisor Año of the Philippines

On June 15, commencing at 3:00 p.m., Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting with Hon. Eduardo M. Año, National Security Advisor of the Republic of the Philippines, during his visit to Japan for approximately 25 minutes. The overview of the meeting is as follows:

  1. At the outset, Foreign Minister Hayashi welcomed National Security Advisor (NSA) Año’s visit to Japan and stated that Japan attaches importance to coordination with the Philippines in order to uphold and strengthen the free and open international order based on the rule of law. In response, Secretary Año expressed his hope for further coordination with Japan to tackle various challenges.
  2. In addition, the two parties exchanged views on the progress on security cooperation and Japan-Philippines-US cooperation bearing in mind the follow up of the “Japan-Philippines Joint Statement”, and affirmed to strengthen cooperation.
  3. Moreover, while exchanging views on the situation in Ukraine, the situation in the East and South China Seas, and the response to North Korea on the nuclear and missile issues as well as the abductions issue, the two sides confirmed to work closely on such issues.
