Lifting of Import Restriction Measures on Japanese Food Products by the EU, Norway and Iceland

August 3, 2023
  1. On August 3, the lifting of import restriction measures on Japanese food products by the European Union (EU) has entered into force. These measures were introduced after the accident at TEPCO's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant in 2011 and had been under review. The EU announced, in July this year, to repeal these measures.
  2. Norway and Iceland have also lifted similar restrictions on August 3 after having completed their internal procedures.
  3. The Government of Japan welcomes the lifting of the measures by the EU and these countries, as it will encourage the reconstruction of the affected areas by the Great East Japan Earthquake.
