Revision of the Implementation Plan for the International Peace Cooperation Assignments in Sinai Peninsula

At cabinet meeting on May 12, 2023, the Government of Japan decided to revise the Implementation Plan for the International Peace Cooperation Assignments in Sinai Peninsula to dispatch additional staff personnel, in light of the significance of dispatch described below. According to the International Peace Cooperation Law Article 7 (i), the contents of the Implementation Plan pertaining to the revision will be reported to the Diet.
- Japan has dispatched Headquarters staff personnel to the Multinational Force and Observers (MFO), which carries out peacekeeping activities such as monitoring of ceasefire between Egypt and Israel, since April 2019. 2 staff officers are currently in charge of liaison and coordination, and facilitate the promotion of dialogues and trust building between Egypt and Israel at the Headquarters of the MFO in Sharm El Sheikh in the Sinai Peninsula.
The MFO requested Japan to dispatch 2 additional staff personnel for planning and coordination in the area of engineering. It is significant for Japan to respond to the request and dispatch additional personnel from the perspective of fostering coordination with other Troop Contributing Countries (TCCs) such as the U.S., demonstrating Japan’s experience and knowledge to the world, and facilitating the peace and stability in the Middle East, a foundation of peace and prosperity for Japan. - The points of revision are as follows.
