Courtesy call on Foreign Minister HAYASHI by Mr.Daren Tang, Director General of World Intellectual Property Organization

On February 27, commencing at 10:50 a.m., for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call from Mr. Daren Tang, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization. An overview is as follows.
- At the outset, Minister HAYASHI welcomed Mr. Tang’s first visit to Japan as Director General of WIPO, and praised that Japanese staff work actively in WIPO.
- In response, Director General Tang expressed appreciation for Japanese international cooperation such as development of intellectual property systems and human resources in developing countries. He also expressed that Japan has many successful examples not only in the field of industrial property but also in the protection of creators’ rights, and he would like to introduce these Japanese examples around the world.
- Furthermore, they exchanged views on the utilization of intellectual property for SMEs and startups and the importance of intellectual property in digital society such as the metaverse.
