Japan-ROK Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Meeting

On November 18, commencing at 8:10 p.m., for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone meeting with H.E. Dr. Park Jin, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
- The two ministers strongly condemned North Korea’s ICBM-class ballistic missile launch on November 18 which landed within Japan’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ), approximately 200km off the coast of Japan, and they once again shared the view that North Korea’s provocations, which are unprecedented both in their frequency and their manner, constitute a grave and imminent threat to the regional security including Japan and the ROK, and pose a clear and serious challenge to the international community.
- As affirmed at the Japan-ROK and Japan-U.S.-ROK Summit Meetings on November 13, the two ministers also concurred on continuing to work closely together between Japan and the ROK and among Japan, the ROK and the U.S. on the enhancement of deterrence in the region including security cooperation among Japan, the ROK and the U.S. and further responses at the UN Security Council, towards the complete denuclearization of North Korea in accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions.
