Japan-U.S. Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Talk

On October 7, commencing at 11:40 a.m. for 15 minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs, held a Japan-U.S. Foreign Ministers’ telephone talk with the Honorable Antony Blinken, Secretary of State of the United States of America. The overview of the talk is as follows.
- At the outset, Secretary Blinken offered his congratulations on Foreign Minister Motegi’s reappointment as Foreign Minister. In response, Minister Motegi stated that the importance of the Japan-U.S. Alliance remains unchanged under the Kishida cabinet and he would continue to work closely with Secretary Blinken based on the relationship of trust that has been cultivated so far.
- The two ministers confirmed that they would continue to cooperate in strengthening the Japan-U.S. Alliance and realizing a "Free and Open Indo-Pacific." Furthermore, both sides exchanged a wide range of views on regional issues, such as North Korea and China, and cooperation on dealing with climate change.
