Japan-U.S. Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Talk

On October 7, commencing at 11:40 a.m. for 15 minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs, held a Japan-U.S. Foreign Ministers’ telephone talk with the Honorable Antony Blinken, Secretary of State of the United States of America. The overview of the talk is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Secretary Blinken offered his congratulations on Foreign Minister Motegi’s reappointment as Foreign Minister. In response, Minister Motegi stated that the importance of the Japan-U.S. Alliance remains unchanged under the Kishida cabinet and he would continue to work closely with Secretary Blinken based on the relationship of trust that has been cultivated so far.
  2. The two ministers confirmed that they would continue to cooperate in strengthening the Japan-U.S. Alliance and realizing a "Free and Open Indo-Pacific." Furthermore, both sides exchanged a wide range of views on regional issues, such as North Korea and China, and cooperation on dealing with climate change.
