Nomination of Mr. Seizo Onoe as a Candidate for the election of the next Director of the Telecommunications Standardization Bureau of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU)

- The Government of Japan has nominated Mr. Seizo Onoe, Chief Standardization Strategy Officer (CSSO) of Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT), as a candidate for the next Director of the Telecommunications Standardization Bureau in the election at the Plenipotentiary Conference of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to be held in September of next year.
- Mr. Seizo Onoe has been playing a leading role in both standardization and technology development in the industry for mobile communication systems. In particular, as one of the board members of various international standardization organizations, he has been active internationally in the field of standardization of mobile communication systems, and his achievements to date have been highly evaluated by other countries. He also served as the President of DOCOMO Technology, Inc. from 2017 to 2021, demonstrating his management skills.
- Japan believes that Mr. Onoe's experience as a manager and an engineer matches the qualifications required for the next Director of the ITU Telecommunication Standardization Bureau, who will be responsible for the standardization of next-generation telecommunications networks, and that he is the most suitable candidate for the position. Japan will make its utmost effort to obtain supports from the international community.
