Japan-Brunei Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Talk

On June 9, commencing at 3 p.m. for 40 minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone talk with Dato Seri Setia Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof, Minister of Foreign Affairs II, Brunei Darussalam. The overview of the talk is as follows.
- The two ministers held an exchange of views on the situation in Myanmar. At the outset, Minister Erywan gave a detailed explanation of the results of his visit to Myanmar last week.
- Minister Motegi expressed his respect to the efforts of Brunei as the Chair of ASEAN, towards the implementation of the “Five-Point Consensus” announced at the ASEAN Leaders’ Meeting, and also stated Japan’s continued cooperation towards the swift implementation of said “Consensus,” including dispatching the ASEAN Special Envoy and achieving constructive dialogue among all parties concerned.
- In response, Minister Erywan expressed his appreciation for Japan’s cooperation, and explained ASEAN’s future initiatives and Brunei’s policy towards turning around the situation in Myanmar. The two ministers concurred to continue working in close coordination.
