Japan-Switzerland Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Talk

On November 27, commencing at 4:20 p.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone talk with H.E. Mr. Ignazio Cassis, Head of the Federal Department for Foreign Affairs of Switzerland. The overview of the talk is as follows.

  1. Minister Motegi stated that he is glad to have a teleconference meeting with Minister Cassis for the first time. In response, Minister Cassis stated that he is delighted to have the first telefone conversation with Minister Motegi.
  2. The two Ministers confirmed that Japan and Switzerland, as important partners sharing fundamental values, will continue to coordinate and cooperate on issues facing the international community. The two Ministers shared the view on the importance of the fair access to vaccines and medications and of the examination and reform of the WHO in response to COVID-19.
  3. Minister Motegi expressed his expectation that exchanges between Japan and Switzerland are expanded among others by the Host Town Initiative on the occasion of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games in next summer. Minister Cassis offered his best wishes for a success of the Games and stated that he would like to cooperate with Minister Motegi in order to further strengthen the relations between Japan and Switzerland.
