Foreign Minister Motegi to Visit Papua New Guinea, Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar

Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, will visit Papua New Guinea (PNG) and three countries in the Mekong region (Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar) from August 20 to 25.
- During his visit to each country, Minister Motegi is scheduled to exchange views on common concerns and interests such as cooperation toward the realization of a Free and Open Indo-Pacific, the situation in the South China Sea which is an urgent challenge for the international community and the region, and North Korea. Through this trip, Minister Motegi aims to establish further closer collaboration in regional and international fora with these countries.
- In PNG, Minister Motegi will exchange views on further promoting the traditionally friendly and cooperative relationship with PNG, which is the key to the stability of the Pacific Island region, and advancing cooperation for the early recovery of the economy of PNG, which has been impacted by the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
- Furthermore, in the three countries in the Mekong region, Minister Motegi is scheduled to exchange views on cooperation for resuming cross-border travel, and promotion of a variety of cooperation including response measures against COVID-19.
