Japan-U.K. Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Talk

On June 2, commencing at around 5:45 p.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone talk with the Rt Hon Dominic Raab MP, Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs and First Secretary of State of the United Kingdom. The overview is as follows.
- Both ministers shared serious concern about the decision made by China’s National People’s Congress regarding policies toward Hong Kong and confirmed that they will coordinate closely through the framework of G7 and other fora. In addition, the two ministers discussed regional affairs and reaffirmed that they will continue to work together closely.
- The two ministers also exchanged views on measures to combat the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), and reaffirmed that they will continue to work together, including in the area of vaccine development.
