Election of Mr. Motoo Noguchi as an independent expert of the panel of experts to assist the Committee on the Election of the Prosecutor

1. On June 27 (New York Time), Mr. Motoo Noguchi, Ambassador for International Judicial Cooperation, Japan, who is the former Chair of the Board of the Directors of the Trust Fund for Victims (TFV) of the International Criminal Court (ICC), was elected as an independent expert of the panel of experts to assist the Committee on the Election of the Prosecutor, who will be elected in 2020. Each independent expert is elected from five regional groups of States Parties to the ICC Rome Statute and will assist the Committee, which will assess candidates of the next Prosecutor, from his or her technical perspective.
2. Mr. Noguchi’s contribution, with his expertise and experience in international criminal law, to the election of the next ICC Prosecutor will have a significant impact on the relationship between Japan and the ICC, to which Japan has consistently been contributing actively.
3. Japan will continue to work closely with other States Parties to support the activities of the ICC.
