Deposit of the Instrument of Accession to the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture

On July 30 (local time: same day), Japan deposited the instrument of accession to the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture with the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Rome.
In accordance with the deposit, the Treaty will enter into force in respect of Japan on October 28, 2013.
It is expected that the entry into the Treaty will promote Japanese crop breeding and Japan will further promote international cooperation for the conservation and sustainable use of plant genetic resources for food and agriculture.
