Japan-Republic of Nicaragua Foreign Ministers' Meeting

On June 19, commencing at 2:00 P.M. for around 45 minutes, Mr. Fumio Kishida, Minister for Foreign Affairs, held a foreign ministers' meeting with H.E. Mr. Samuel Santos López, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Nicaragua, who was visiting Japan. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
- Minister Kishida stated that he was happy to receive Minister Santos and to have signed an Exchange of Notes (E/N) concerning the "National Sustainable Electrification and Renewable Energy Project," which is the first project-type yen loan between the two countries since 1977. Minister Kishida added that he expects this yen loan to contribute to the development of sustainable energy in Nicaragua.
- Minister Santos expressed his appreciation for Japan's economic cooperation, and gave an explanation concerning the economic policies of the Nicaraguan Government to date and the "Inter-Oceanic Canal Construction Plan" that is currently being underway. He also expressed his hope that Japanese companies would participate in this project.
- The two ministers also exchanged views concerning bilateral relations, as well as other regional and international situations.
