On June 19, commencing at 2:00 P.M. for around 45 minutes, Mr. Fumio Kishida, Minister for Foreign Affairs, held a foreign ministers' meeting with H.E. Mr. Samuel Santos López, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Nicaragua, who was visiting Japan. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

  1. Minister Kishida stated that he was happy to receive Minister Santos and to have signed an Exchange of Notes (E/N) concerning the "National Sustainable Electrification and Renewable Energy Project," which is the first project-type yen loan between the two countries since 1977. Minister Kishida added that he expects this yen loan to contribute to the development of sustainable energy in Nicaragua.
  2. Minister Santos expressed his appreciation for Japan's economic cooperation, and gave an explanation concerning the economic policies of the Nicaraguan Government to date and the "Inter-Oceanic Canal Construction Plan" that is currently being underway. He also expressed his hope that Japanese companies would participate in this project.
  3. The two ministers also exchanged views concerning bilateral relations, as well as other regional and international situations.
