Meeting between Mr. Fumio Kishida, Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Keat Chhon, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economic and Finance of Cambodia

On May 24, commencing at 3:15 p.m. for around 30 minutes, Mr. Fumio Kishida, Minister for Foreign Affairs, held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Keat Chhon, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economic and Finance of Cambodia, who was visiting Japan to attend the 19th International Conference on the Future of Asia. The overview of the meeting is as follows:
- Minister Kishida noted that this year is the 60th Anniversary of Friendship between Japan and Cambodia and said that he would like to further develop the relationship of trust that had been built between Japan and Cambodia since the peace process.
In response, Deputy Prime Minister Keat Chhon said that he would like to celebrate this year, as it is the 60th Anniversary of Friendship between Japan and Cambodia and the 40th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation. - Minister Kishida stated that Cambodia was an important country from the perspectives of strengthening connectivity and narrowing disparity in the region, adding that Japan was placing emphasis on both the promotion of investment in Cambodia and economic cooperation.
In response, Deputy Prime Minister Keat Chhon expressed gratitude for the "hard" and "soft" support received from Japan since the peace process. He stated that investments by Japanese companies in Cambodia are contributing to the creation of employment opportunities, transfer of technology, and diversification of industry in Cambodia. He also said that the Cambodian Government would continue its efforts for the improvement of the investment environment.
