Courtesy Call on Mr. Minoru Kiuchi, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, by Mr. Mike Smith, Executive Director of the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED)
  1. In the afternoon of May 21, Mr. Minoru Kiuchi, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call from Mr. Mike Smith, Executive Director of the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED).
  2. Mr. Kiuchi welcomed Executive Director Smith's visit to Japan, and explained various counter-terrorism measures which Japan has taken including vis-à-vis the terrorist incident in Algeria.
  3. Mr. Smith explained the activities which the CTED have operated on, especially in North Africa.
  4. Both Mr. Kiuchi and Executive Director Smith stated their hope that through the latter's visit to Japan, information exchange would be closer in order to strengthen the cooperation between Japan and the UN on international counter-terrorism measures.

On the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED)
The Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTC) was established by Security Council resolution 1373 (2001) to monitor the implementation of United Nations Member States to prevent terrorist acts. The Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) was established in 2005 under Security Council resolution 1535 (2004) to assist the CTC.
