On May 16, commencing from 3:20 P.M. for around 20 minutes, Mr. Fumio Kishida, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting with the Honorable Andrew Scheer, M.P., Speaker of the House of Commons of Canada, who is visiting Japan at the invitation of the House of Representatives. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

1. Minister Kishida welcomed Speaker Scheer on his first visit to Japan, and noted that Japan and Canada are partners in the Asia-Pacific region that share fundamental values, and that parliamentarians’ leagues from Japan and Canada are having active exchanges, making a great contribution to the excellent bilateral relations. He also remarked that Japan and Canada are cooperating in a variety of fields such as economic fields like energy and trade, and the security field, and said that he hoped to further deepen such cooperation.
2. Speaker Scheer expressed gratitude for the warm consideration of the Japanese side upon his visit to Japan. He said that Japan and Canada have a cooperative relationship in many fields, and that the economic relationship between the two countries produces mutual benefits. He noted that Canada possesses abundant and various natural resources, and said he was pleased to see the people of Japan taking notice of the potential of those natural resources.
