Japan-Paraguay Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Talk

On August 29, commencing at 9:10 a.m., for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone talk with H.E. Mr. Rubén Darío Ramírez Lezcano, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Paraguay. The overview of the talk is as follows.
- At the outset, Minister Hayashi congratulated Minister Ramírez on his new position. Minister Hayashi, touching upon his visit to Paraguay in May this year, expressed his desire to work together with Minister Ramírez towards the further development of the Japan-Paraguay friendship of more than 100 years. Minister Ramírez expressed his appreciation for Japan's cooperation to date and his willingness to continue to strengthen relations with Japan under the new Peña administration, which took office in August.
- The two ministers also exchanged views on the enhancement of economic relations in light of the visit of a Keidanren Mission to Paraguay this July, and on international affairs, including the situation in East Asia. They shared the view that they would also work closely together in the international arena.
- In addition, regarding the recently initiated discharge of ALPS treated water into the ocean, Minister Ramírez expressed his support for Japan’s implementation in compliance with international standards. Minister Hayashi expressed his appreciation for Minister Ramírez’s understanding, and stated that Japan would continue to give detailed explanations with high transparency based on scientific evidence.
