Meeting between Foreign Minister Hayashi and Deputy Prime Minister Kuchkarov

On July 26, commencing at 4:10 p.m. for approximately 50 minutes, Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, had a meeting with Mr. Jamshid KUCHKAROV, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan, who is visiting Japan upon invitation by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

  1. At the outset, referring to his visit to Uzbekistan and the Foreign Ministers' Meeting of the "Central Asia plus Japan" Dialogue in Tokyo last year, Minister Hayashi expressed his desire to work even more closely with Uzbekistan, an important strategic partner in building a free and open international order based on the rule of law.
  2. Minister Hayashi also spoke about the priorities of cooperation, focusing on "investment in people" and "quality of growth," and the importance of smooth implementation of key economic cooperation projects between the two countries, as well as the need for cooperation in dealing with Russia's aggression against Ukraine and other issues.
  3. In response, Deputy Prime Minister Kuchkarov expressed his gratitude for the invitation and his hope for further deepening and expanding bilateral relations, including the utilization of Uzbekistan's human resources in Japan and investment by Japanese companies.
  4. The two sides exchanged views on the international situation, including the situation in Ukraine, and confirmed their commitment to work closely together on bilateral and international issues.
