Telephone Talk between Foreign Minister HAYASHI and H.E. Ms.Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO

On June 16, commencing at 17:30 p.m. for approximately 10 minutes, Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan held a telephone talk with H.E. Ms. Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The overview of the talk is as follows.

At the outset, Director-General Azoulay expressed her appreciation for Japan's active cooperation for the return of the U.S. to UNESCO. In response, Minister Hayashi stated that Japan welcomes the announcement by the U.S. on its intention to return to UNESCO, and that Japan will continue to play a leading role so that the U.S. can return to UNESCO at an early date.

Both sides concurred to continue close coordination to further strengthen Japan-UNESCO cooperation, including in education and cultural heritage protection in Ukraine.
