The First Japan-NATO Cyber Dialogue

On Tuesday, November 21 the first Japan-North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Cyber Dialogue was held in Brussels, Belgium.

  1. This meeting was co-chaired by Mr. ISHIZUKI Hideo, Ambassador in charge of Cyber Policy and Deputy Director-General of Foreign Policy Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (MOFA), and Mr. David VAN WEEL, Assistant Secretary General of NATO for Emerging Security Challenges. From the Japanese side, officials from MOFA, National center of Incident readiness and Strategy for Cybersecurity (NISC), and Ministry of Defense (MOD) attended the dialogue.
  2. In this dialogue, the two sides exchanged views on broad topics ranging from each side’s policy and future bilateral cooperation in the field of cyber.
  3. Both sides confirmed that they will continue to closely work together in the field of cyber, including through the Japan-NATO Cyber Dialogue.
