Vice-Ministerial Meeting of the Japan-U.S. Economic Policy Consultative Committee (Economic “2+2”)

On October 19th from 9:30 p.m. for approximately 80 minutes, a Vice-Ministerial meeting of the Japan-U.S. Economic Policy Consultative Committee was held online. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

  1. Mr. ONO Keiichi, Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Mr. HOSAKA Shin, Vice-Minister for International Affairs at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, represented the Japanese side. Mr. Jose W. Fernandez, Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment, and Ms. Marisa Lago, Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade, represented the U.S. side.
  2. In the meeting, both sides shared a recognition of the strategic environments surrounding the two countries and the growing importance of economic security.
  3. Both sides exchanged views on various issues such as strengthening the rules-based economic order in the Indo-Pacific region and enhancing economic resilience as well as protecting and promoting critical and emerging technologies. They confirmed that they will further crystalize bilateral initiatives.
