On October 16, 2023, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. TSUJI Kiyoto received a courtesy call from Mr. Iñigo URKULLU RENTERIA, President of the Basque Govenment of the Kingdom of Spain. The overview of the courtesy call is as follows.

  1. State Minister Tsuji welcomed the President’s visit to Japan and stated that he hoped the exchanges between Japan and the Basque Government would be further vitalized through projects in various areas on the occation of Japan-Basque 2023.
  2. In response, President Urkullu stated that Japan is one of the most important countries for the Basque Government and mentioned that Japan-Basque 2023 is the first event for the Basque Government to commemorate the exchanges with a foreign country. Expressing his gratitude for Japan’s support in realizing projects implemented under Japan-Basaue 2023, he stated his desire to further promote cooperation with Japan.
  3. Furthermore, they concurred on continuing to activate economic, cultural and social exchanges between Japan and Basque.
